I made this video of our dive at Dutch Springs back in August 2007. I thought you might all enjoy some bottom time without getting wet.
SAVANNAH, Georgia (25 Oct 2007) -- Captured by Confederate sailors in a bloody midnight sneak attack in 1864, the gunboat Water Witch became one of the few Civil War ships to sail under the flags of both the Confederate and Union navies.
Archaeologists say they found strong evidence Thursday they've located the Water Witch's wreckage buried under more than 10 feet of mud in the Vernon River south of Savannah.
Divers pushed a 20-foot metal rod through the river mud Thursday and tapped solid wood and metal underneath. It was the same location where an 1865 survey map showed Confederate sailors burned the ship to prevent Union Gen. William T. Sherman's army from recapturing it. READ MORE....
This first video represented our first dive. We swim from the submerged platforms at about 30 feet to a depth of a little over 60 feet. At the end of the rope is an old boat. The boat has been stripped out inside and allows us to penetrate with little effort. Inside the boat we share our dive with a large trout. He really did not like us being there but we enjoyed seeing him. On this dive (63 feet, 52 degrees, and 30 foot of viz).

This video represents our second dive. We just completed an 1.5 hour surface interval. We did a short surface swim to a bouy. Under the bouy was a trolley. Again the interior was stripped out of the trolley which allowed for easy penetration. this dive was about 60 feet, 52 degree water temp, and viz was less than 15 feet). You will notice a slight difference in the viz on this dive. We who dive in
Enjoy the dive.

Just a quick note to everyone, there have been some important date changes.
The Dutch Springs Trip will be August 11th and 12th.
The St. Lawerence Trip Date will be determined at another date.
Please check back for more information.
THANKS.
The July meeting of the Westsylvania Dive Club was held on Wednesday July 11, 2007 at Mikes Scuba shop. In case you didn’t get the memo, the meeting was pushed back a week because of the 4th of July holiday. A mixture of members and guests made up the ten people present. First, the Sheetz fundraiser raised $220.00 for the club. Thanks to all of you for your efforts. Thanks especially to Don Shock for organizing the fundraiser. Second, there will be a social gathering at Mike Millers house on Saturday evening on July 14, 2007. It is BYOB and also bring a covered dish. Mike says he will provide the chicken and burgers. Third and lastly, we have some diving opportunities coming up. We will be diving at Dutch Springs on the weekend of August 4th and 5th. We are planning on diving the St. Lawrence Seaway on the weekend of August 11th and 12th. We have a club member looking into dive charters at this moment. We discussed diving from the Canadian side. If indeed we do dive from the Canadian side, you will need a passport. We are working on a date to do the Raystown Lake dive. It looks like it will be no earlier than late August or September when we will be able to do that dive. The shop is planning another Bonaire trip from February 2-9, 2008. There are only two spots left for the trip. Airfare will cost about $535.00. Get your name in for this trip if interested. That’s all for this month. For any information on upcoming dives, please contact the dive shop or one of your club officers. Till next month, enjoy the summer and dive safely.
