Jim's California Dive Trip

The following is a dive story posted by one of our dive club members Jim Valdesalice. Thanks for sharing your dive story Jim. Kory is getting me pictures.

We (Me,Leslie,Vince) went to Ca. on the first week of January 2007. I hooked up with my old dive buddy from the Navy. We did two days of boat diving with "VENTURA DIVE & SPORT" on their NEW dive boat, the "RAPTOR".  She's the newest and fastest dive boat in the area. Your tanks are on the boat when you get there, and unlike the old "Crew" boats I've dove on in the past, there was no nasty Diesel fumes to deal with, and they serve a pretty mean lunch too. The first day was a 3 tank trip, the second was 2 tanks. Both days we left

and went out to

Anacappa

Island

. The water temperature was 55 deg. and vis was 15' - 25' both days. The highlight had to be the dive at the underwater arch in the Kelp forest with the Harbor seals. And for the first time in my life I was the last one out of the water!!!  I figure it had to do with all the "LOCAL" divers thinking it was extremely cold and they sucked up their gas to fast.

I was in heaven!!

While sitting in History class we got the impression that in the past century war has rarely come to the shores of America. However for those of us who are fortunate to visit the underwater world we know differently. For example, just off the coast of North Carolina the sea floor is littered with wrecks.Some caused by bad weather, bad navigation, or by the intentional sinking from German U-Boats but how about an actual WWII German U-boat. Dive Club Minutes

Now for some internet news.  The Westsylvania Dive Club web site is being updated.  The club is reviewing opportunities that myspace.com may provide to the club.  This may help expand the club into other regions, and get our club name out there to the diving community.  We will need photos for a photo album to post on the myspace website if one is created.

Current events going on and around the club are as follows.  The club is looking for a date and time for a movie night.  We also reviewed the scuba Olympics held at St. Francis in which club members participated in.  Poker night was held again this month at the dive shop.  A good time was had by all, especially Kory.  We are looking at having a fund raiser to raise money to rent a pontoon boat at

this summer to use as a dive boat.
