Dive Club Minutes

Now for some internet news.  The Westsylvania Dive Club web site is being updated.  The club is reviewing opportunities that myspace.com may provide to the club.  This may help expand the club into other regions, and get our club name out there to the diving community.  We will need photos for a photo album to post on the myspace website if one is created.

Current events going on and around the club are as follows.  The club is looking for a date and time for a movie night.  We also reviewed the scuba Olympics held at St. Francis in which club members participated in.  Poker night was held again this month at the dive shop.  A good time was had by all, especially Kory.  We are looking at having a fund raiser to raise money to rent a pontoon boat at

Lake

Raystown

this summer to use as a dive boat. 

Florida Keys Dive Trip

Hey Club Member! Dave is planning a dive trip to the Florida Keys for January 25-29. The cost is $600 and includes three days of 2 tank diving for a total of 6 dives, hotel accomodations, and airfare. Dave needs a $120 deposit from those interested in attending by January 11, 2007. So greet in the New Year with a warm water dive to America's favorite scuba destination.

Nominations For 2007-2008 Year

You will want to attend the next dive club meeting and club members will want to make sure they have some nominations in mind for the next slate of officersfor the 2007-2008 season. These are important nominations as they are your leaders for the dive club. So we look forward to seeing you there, please see the calendar for date and time. Remember you need to be a dive club member to make a nomination.

Club Meeting Minutes

We had our Westsylvania Club Meeting September 6, 2006 at 7pm. We believe the Club is a year old now. We had a great turnout for the meeting. Kory took the minutes for the meeting because Randy could not make it that night. Tom Baer VP, lead the meeting due to VACATIONER (dave smith Pres) was missing and Byron Wyant was unable to attend.

Members present were Tom Baer VP, Elwood Musselman, Phil Mentzer, Rich Schnaubea, Mike Euker, Barb Euker, Kory Eicher, Don Shock

Guests present were Harvey Montgomery, Bob Hand, Mike Miller, Erin Cooley.

Newly minted members (board approved by Kory, Don, and Tom) were Mark Rispoli and Becky Kovaloski.

Total of 14 people attended the meeting.

Meeting last around an hour, people stayed for another hour.

Tom Baer opened meeting with introductions of members and guests present.

-Talked about any trips and upcoming trips. St. Lawrence was discussed, so was mike's trip to bahamas.

Harvey talked about cozumel diving is the best, mentioned dave smith was in mexico and the fun and troubles he was having while there. Bob hand talked about yellow creek diving and how it was fun looking for stuff like a vault.

Dive club dives planned are september 9 10th blue hole, 2-5pm any club member may show and dive, Dutch Springs 22 and 30th(stay and do a night dive on 30th), 23rd blue hole all day and a night dive and possible campfire to talk and enjoy.

Mike mentioned about diving with laurel divers on october 14th, details pending

Rich brought up about a trip in may to somewhere warm. harvy said he would look into it.

Group talked about freshwater jellyfish appearing at the blue hole.

Then talked about pros/cons of zebra mussels Rich mentioned more about trip to mexico to Harvy, 1 week, 3rd week of may, details pending, will talk about more at next meeting.

Last order of business was a movie evening on september 24 at 4pm at Erin Cooleys office in downtown altoona, contact erin@mikesscuba.com for directions and parking details. everyone is to bring a covered dish and guest are welcome, Kory will provide the movie, movie choice is up in the air for now, contact kory@mikesscuba.com for suggestions on movie for movie night

Mike Miller On Vaction

I heard from Mike. He was on his cruise this week with his lovely wife Tonya. Mike wanted to get away for a nice vacation before the baby comes, for those not aware Mike and Tonya are expecting.

Last I had heard from Mike they were in the Turks. He and Tonya went snorkeling. They saw a giant blowfish and a squid. It gave Tonya a bit of a scare but she had a blast. They are traveling on and said they will be snorkeling at the next stop.

Warm, clear water and abundant wildlife. Doesn't it make you green with envy. Well, I look forward to the stories.

A Word From the President
It is a pleasure to be President of the dive club but my greatest reward is knowing everyone from Mike's Scuba and all of the club members.  I am very excited about the upcoming diving events and I hope to see as many divers as possible participate.  There is alot of interest and enthusiasm in the club and I truely hope it continues.  Congratulations on all of those who completed there AWO class (sorry I couldn't make the trip).  Take care and dive safe.

Tom is Well
Club member and officer Tom Baer underwent surgery last week. Tom is doing fine and is recovering at home. He will not be able to dive for awhile but was able to get one dive in with Kory and Byron before the surgery. We wish you a speedy recovery Tom and our prayers are with you. Anyone interested in sending Tom a card, please contact Kory at 814-695-4666 for contact information.

Club Cookout!
A cookout at Mike Miller's house is being planned for Friday, June 16. There are no specific details but look for more information soon. The event is open to dive club members and their family. Mike's house is located in New Enterprise just off of RTE. 869 on North Road. Please check back for more information. If you are interested in coming then please email kory@mikesscuba.com.

Dive Trip
On Sunday, June 18th there is a dive trip. We are going to Bainbridge. We are leaving from Mike's Scuba at 7pm and expect to arrive at the site around 9:30am-10am. For more information on Bainbridge please visit Dive Bainbridge. Look for more information on this dive trip in upcoming posts.
